Context

I’m a professor of mathematics at The University of North Carolina at Asheville. I teach across the curriculum including courses in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, data science, and machine learning. I use Mark’s Math, which I’ve owned since 2014, as my professional presence in academia. This blog lives on a separate subdomain and I write a bit more freely on a number of fun and unfun topics including:

• mathematics,
• AI and tech more broadly, and
• the state of higher education.

I often use data to get my ideas across and illustrate my posts using visualizations using tools by Observable.
